It is always a good idea to be prepared especially when you have a little one. There is nothing worse than having a poopy diaper leak all over the car seat and not having anything to clean it up with. I personally always keep my bag in my car at all times. I have made the mistake of bringing it in to refill certain things and then I completely forgot it. Of course, the one time you do forget your bag that is the day you need it the most. It’s better to just leave it in the car.
I put a list together of 12 things I feel are important to have in my car at all times.
You need something to put all this stuff in otherwise your car ends up looking like a big mess so, of course, this is number one. I use a diaper bag but a gym bag, backpack or box works just as well. I love both of these bags. You can get the backpack diaper bag here and the strip diaper bag here.
Seriously I use these for everything and they do a very good job cleaning up all the messes your little one make in the car. I even clean my dashboard with them.
Change of clothes
I always keep at least two full (shirt, pants, socks, and now undies) outfits for my daughter and one outfit for me. I can’t count the number of times I have been thrown up on or Vay would have an accident. Vay would get really sick when her car seat was rear facing. She still gets car sick just not as often so it is always good to have extra clothes.
I always kept puffs in my car for Vay and a granola bar or The GFB Bites (they are so yummy, protein packed, and vegan) for myself. There is nothing worse than you or your little one being “hangry,” you know when you are so hungry everything makes you angry.
This is great to have to rinse things off in the car, especially sticky hands. Sometimes you need more than just baby wipes.
Extra bottles/ sippy cups
I like to have an extra one so I can order a juice and then stick it in one of these so it doesn’t get all over my car.
Diapers, pull-ups, or underwear
Depending on where your child is with potty training you will need these.
After you change a diaper, get thrown up on, etc. you need to disinfect. I also never knew how much kids touch things.
Now that my daughter is older I honestly have too many toys in my car but at least she is entertained and doesn’t ask “Are we there yet” every 5 seconds. My daughter loved her Sophie Giraffe this is the set she has. Her favorite toy was a butterfly very similar to this one. I would just hang it on the car seat handle. I also love this soft book so they can touch, play and look through. Now that she is older I have activity books and magnetic books like this Minnie Mouse Look and Find.
You are going to want to put those dirty clothes or diapers somewhere so it won’t smell up your car and zip locks work well.
Blankets or changing pad
I would lay one of these down on my seat before I would change her. Also great when they are cold from the A/C and you are still hot and don’t want to turn it off.
Rear seat cover
This doesn’t go in my bag but is definitely essential for my car. That way when your little one dropped milk and it leaks all under the car seat it goes on the cover instead of your beautiful seats. I learned this the hard way when I thought I wiped up all the milk but didn’t and it dried to my seat. You can get the one below HERE.
I hope you all like my list. If there anything else you feel is essential to have in your car. Let me know.
