Sometimes do you feel like you are just a mess? I get so focused on my child, working, cleaning and trying to get everything done that I forget to think about myself. Now, I really hope you aren’t as bad as I am because I was supposed to have an ultrasound done over 6 months ago for a lump. I made the appointment and the day I was supposed to go my sitter canceled and I couldn’t find anyone else to watch my daughter, they wouldn’t let me take her with me. I pretty much forgot about it after that. When I do schedule an appointment they are usually 3 months out and no one knows their schedule that far out so they say yes and then end up canceling. I promise I will make an appointment.
Lately, I feel so tired. I mean I think I am always tired but now more than normal. I try to go to sleep early but it is so hard to turn my mind off. I also have been worried about Vay at night. Ever since the fires a week ago she has sounded really congested and coughs all night. I took her to the doctors and she has no infection so we just have to wait it out. It makes me feel so bad when she wakes up crying because she can’t stop coughing.
Last night Vay fell asleep really early so I knew it was the perfect time for me to relax. I took a long bath, called an old friend to catch up, and I did a little workout. I still had a little trouble falling asleep but once I was asleep I stayed asleep. I woke up feeling a lot better and a lot less cranky. Self-care is very important for our mental health. We need to take care of ourselves in order to take care of anyone else.
Here are my 7 Tips for Self Care
Be a Priority
I make my daughter my number one priority but then I tend to forget about myself. Remember to make yourself a priority too. Your kids need you and the only way to be the best you is to take care of your needs as well.
2. Find Time to Yourself
Make sure to set time for yourself. Whether that means getting a sitter and having lunch with some friends or getting time to read a book and relax or do some yoga while your little one is sleeping. Whatever you need to do to feel good. Sometimes we just need alone time for ourselves and as a mom, we don’t get very much.
This one is hard for me. I love my sleep and when I don’t get enough I get cranky but if I sleep too much I get a bad headache. I also can’t go to sleep late and then just wake up later. If I go to sleep too late I start to feel really sick like a headache and nausea. This is why sticking to a sleep schedule is not just great for kids but for adults as well.
4. Enjoy a shower or bath
Take your time in the shower or bath. The warm water really helps you relax especially after a long stressful day. Add some Epsom salts essential oils or try my detox bath. If you have trouble fitting in time for a shower with your little one try using a Baby door Jumper. This was a life saver for me. My daughter absolutely loved hers.
5. Spoil yourself
I know this is hard to do when you are tight on money but you can set a little money aside each paycheck and at the end of the month buy yourself something like that dress you have been wanting. You could also go get a manicure-pedicure, get your hair done, or my favorite a message.
Everyone needs to get some sort of exercise I am not saying you need to do intense workouts but getting some exercise each day. It is very important for your health, mind, and body. Exercising equals endorphins which mean being happy and feeling less stressed. I was never a fan of exercising but it just takes finding something you like and enjoy so don’t give up keep trying different types of exercise until you find one you like or at least hate the least. My favorite is dance workouts and there are plenty out there.
7. Start a Journal
You can use a journal for many things. One idea is, I like to write down everything I need to get done this way I don’t have to worry if I have forgotten anything because I can just go back to my journal and check. This also helps with writing this blog. I get so many ideas in my head that I want to write about but then when I go to write I can’t seem to remember any of them so writing it all down really helps. Another thing I like to write about is everything that happened throughout my day the good and the bad. Then when I go back and read it another day I can self-reflect.
I hope these tips help you out. Now go relax and take some “Me” time. Do you have any Self Care Tips? Comment them below.
