Planning a Birthday at Disneyland? Here are seven ways to have an amazing Birthday at Disneyland.
This was our first year having Disneyland passes so naturally, we had to go for our Birthdays. I mean it is the happiest place on earth and Vay turned the big five years old. Seriously, can time slow down a bit? I love seeing the person she is becoming but I want her to stay little a little longer. I wanted her birthday to be great, something my daughter will remember. I am really big on planning birthdays but also you should plan ahead to get the reservations you want at the times you want. I did my research and chose things I knew my daughter would love but also that I can afford. I mean if I had the money we would have definitely stayed at a Disney hotel but that just wasn’t in my budget. Though we didn’t get a hotel room we only live an hour away so we didn’t have to travel far. We also went with my sister, nephews and our friend Sara so we all just carpooled together.
Here are seven ways to Celebrate a Birthday at Disneyland.
1. Birthday Pin
If you have done any research then you already know to get one. I absolutely love this, once your little one has their pin every cast member that see it will tell them Happy Birthday. We even had guest saying Happy Birthday and Vay just loved that everyone knew it was her Birthday. You can get a pin at Guest Relations at City hall when you walk in, you can get them at certain stores like the Emporium, or if you made breakfast reservations at any character dining they will give you one when you let them know it’s their birthday. This isn’t just for kids adults can get one too. You can also get one for your first visit.
2. Character Dining
So this is where my planning ahead kind of came in handy. I made Breakfast reservations at Goofy’s Kitchen, I really wanted to get a reservation at the Plaza Inn but they were booked way in advance. If you can get the morning reservation at the Plaza Inn on the day they have early morning access, definitely do it. That way you are already in the park before the lines get really long to enter the park. Even though I didn’t get the reservation where I wanted I am happy that I was able to make a reservation at Goofy’s Kitchen an hour before the park opened so we didn’t miss out on anything. The shortest lines are in the morning so we wanted to get in right when they opened the park and start getting on rides.
The Character Dining is so fun and this way your little one gets to meet a few characters before they even get into the park. I recommend bringing an autograph book with you. Each character will visit your table and you will get to take pictures with them and get an autograph. When checking into your reservation don’t forget to let them know you are there for a birthday. They will give you the Birthday pin after your meal. The characters will also bring a cupcake or other dessert out and sing your child Happy Birthday.
For my birthday, I went to The Blue Bayou, This is the restaurant inside Pirates of the Caribbean which is one of my favorite rides and I loved it. I have been wanting to eat at this restaurant since I was little and I was so excited to finally eat there. There aren’t any characters but the food is delicious and would be great for older kids and of course adults.
3. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
This is another thing you want to make a reservation for. They have different packages to fit your budget. For Vay, I decided on the Crown Package which was around $65 when we went. With this package she got a princess hairstyle (you get four styles to choose from), they did her makeup and made her shimmer, then painted her nails and put face gems on, and a princess sash. You then get a cinch bag to put the extra makeup, nail polish and face gems in. They also give you shampoo, a brush, and comb to help get all the product out of their hair. This package did not come with a dress and although they have beautiful dresses that they do not sell at their other stores or online I just could not afford it at this time. I decided instead to bring a costume for her and surprised her with it when we were there.
For her cousins, my sister picked the Knight package which was around $20 (before tax) they too got their hair styled, then they were given a sword and shield. All three kids were so happy and looked absolutely adorable. You can also get their pictures done after their makeover. I am not sure about the cost because we didn’t do it but I did see the set where they take the pictures and it was a really cute Cinderella carriage.
4. Get Serenaded
If you mention a Birthday and show them your birthday pin, the band in New Orleans Square will sing a special Birthday song for your little one.
5. Custom Birthday Cake
Let’s be honest no Birthday can be complete without something sweet. If you want a special cake for your little one you can order a custom-made cake and have it delivered to one of the select table-service restaurants. This is another thing that needs to be planned ahead of time. You must order your cake 3 days before the time you visit and if you have special dietary needs they might need 7 days ahead of time. You can get more information here.
6. Birthday Ears
Nothing screams it’s your Birthday more than having Disney Birthday ears. You can purchase a hat that says it’s your birthday or they also had these adorable ears with a cute candle on top. Or, If you want a different pair of ears I have found a lot on Etsy. The one below is one of my favorites for a Birthday from Magical Princess Ears. They have so many cute Disney ears. You can purchase the ones below here.
7. Special Surprise at Hotel Room
Are you planning on staying at a Disneyland Hotel? If so you can order an In-Room Celebration. This is where the hotel will put gifts and balloons in your room before you get there and when your child walks into the room they will be really surprised. They have a bunch of different packages to choose from form $200-$500. You can choose an In- Room Celebration HERE.
